Although a major internationally renowned company, our client hadn't operated offices in the UK for more than 20 years. When they decided to create a regional Head Office in the UK, they were looking for a supplier who could not only provide the office equipment and IT infrastructure to support 200+ employees but could also provide ongoing support - particularly for the desktop and laptop user base.

To address the main requirements of security, ease of recovery, continuity of operation and support for multi-location, we leveraged Microsoft Active Directory and Office technologies to provide a robust, portable and easy to manage solution.

It was by no means plain sailing and the infrastructure requirement was relatively high given that centralised backup and recovery operations were to underpin the administration of the domains and its users. Having established the business requirements and rules, policies were developed to enforce and support these in server, network and desktop environments.

This meant that all software maintenance, patches and updates were centralised and applied globally without gaps or overlooked devices. It also meant that the environment was recoverable and as is always the case, if a machine failed or was lost, the user profile, settings and information including documents, presentation and emails could all be recovered in a few hours at the press of a few buttons.

All this combined with remote access technology meant that we could support desktop and laptop users at their place of work, remotely or even when they had gone home and the equipment was idle. Downtime was minimised, loss or damage was no longer a disaster and the overall operation was more stable and cost-efficient than by traditional approaches. So efficient was the design and processes we developed, the whole operation only required a single resource to keep it running.
